The season is coming to an end here, still a few pilots about & the possibility of some good flights, but generally overdeveloping in the early afternoon & a west wind beginning around 12 & getting strong until 4. Manali could still be possible with the right start.

I’m going to Kenya soon to fly & safari. I realise that 99% of bloggers are writing to themselves & I find it easier to talk to myself than write, so unless someone wants to read this rambling it’s going into limbo for the next undetermined time.

enjoy life!!

Some good flying lately - personal records & site records & the Indian record have all been broken in the last week or so. Debu flew 211km for a national record.

There have been good days & windy days interspersed  with non-flying days, the trick is to decide in the morning which it’s going to be.

Finally the sky is blue, the sun is shining & the mountains are glistening in the sun.

The flying, alas wasn’t so good, there, were 2 inversions, the higher at 3,200m & it was pretty bumpy, a few nice thermals, but many not very nice ones.

a bit of alto cirrus all day, weather from the north again?

the weather here is still crazy, storms & snow that normally happen in Jan or Feb are happening now.

there have been a few flyable days & Debu made a new site record from Bir (180km) but there still hasn’t been a “topless” day. I think the max altitude this season has been 4,300m or so. And it’s stormy today.

Some pictures of our recent trip to Billing.  2.5 days total, 1 flyable day - 2 flights.

Wonderful instruction!

Today at 9am it looked as if the storm last night had cleared the air & we were finally going to get a blue top-less day. By 10 the first high cloud had come in & slowed the development of the Cu-Nims a bit.
Gilles & I took off a little after 12, by which time there were a couple of gliders high heading west.
We flew towards Dharamsala & landed with some difficulty at the temple of Chamunda Devi for a chai & a blessing. Above the temple after i took off I had to do some deep spiral to get out from under a developing cu-nim. After that it was a matter of surfing the edge of the cloud street at about 3000m back to Bir. A good days flying 2 hours out 1 return.
